RACE FOR THE CURE 2009

So we did it! After months of preparing, the Race for the Cure 5k finally arrived and what an awesome experience! We had a beautiful morning to run and along with 18,000 other runner's and walkers we completed the 3.1 mile loop in just over 32 minutes! (It could have been shorter but getting 18,000 people moving is quite a task!) I was glad to have the opportunity to support an awesome cause and hopefully in some small way contribute to the efforts of finding a cure. Thank you to those who donated in my behalf and thank you to Deb, Zach, Ethan and Tylar for getting up at the crack of dawn and dealing with the crowds to hold up signs and cheer me on at the end!

It was a great weekend! Don came down to hang out with Zack and I. I can't tell you how nice it was to have someone around to play video games and make a tree swing with Zack! I am so happy for the opportunity to build a new relationship with my brother and for Zack to make a friendship with his Uncle Don.

Luckily, the weather was great and we had the chance to go skiing. What a great day! I wish we had more time to do more runs. Jason, Em, Zack, Don and I did a little spring skiing at Brighton...everyone was happy, I couldn't ask for more. I have to say, I was pretty impressed with the whole bunch. Zack show great confidence tackling some blue runs and the half pipe. Em did great practicing her turns. Don, who hadn't skiing in 20 (?) years, took to the slopes like he never left them. I love spring skiing!

Ethan's D.A.R.E. Graduation!

March was a busy month for the Ashby's! It started off with Ty's B-day and Kenedi's awesome baptism! Kim, Tanyss, and the kids came down for the Draper Temple Open House which was amazing even though it was cold and rainy! Zach had his birthday party at the park on the first really nice day of the year and we really enjoyed hanging out there with he and Deb and his friend from school! We played an awesome game of kickball, which Deb takes very seriously when she is playing...just ask the kid she nailed in the head with the ball trying to get him out!! (he he!) Lance and Ty had daddy daughter which was a western theme. Lance was thrilled! He new there would be Country music and he was right! He had to dosey-doe to it all night! They had a great time! We had a few really nice days where the kids were able to do normal spring things and not wear their snow boots! We also had a serious round of the stomach flu which we all got.....I didn't take pictures of that! And our month ended with the kids going back on track and Ethan's D.A.R.E. graduation! As usual, I was a little emotional watching him geat his certificate and I had to remind myself that it was not High School Graduation!

TORREY IN JULY
Is anyone interested in going to Torrey, July 6, 7 and 8th? Denise has already reserved 3 cabins and Dad and I may take one of them or call and reserve another one. We realize it isn't a weekend, but the cabins are all taken for the weekends, so this works for us, how about any of you? Let us know.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TYLAR!

So every year for the kids birthday we decorate their rooms with signs and balloons after they go to sleep so when they wake up they are reminded immediatley that it is a special day....their special day. This year, however, we had to emprovize a little since when we went to blow up the balloons we realized that the kids had used them for water balloons last year and we only had two left...well at first. Then Lance started blowing them up and popped one. It was to late to go to the store so we decided that we would get up really early and wake Ty up by blowing bubbles on her and singing Happy Birthday. It actually turned out that I sang and Lance took the pictures...oh ya...and we did leave one balloon! It was a great day full of memories and family. You all know that I have a "love-hate" relationship with birthdays and not just my own but the kids as well. I love that they are growing and hate that they are growing at the same time. Birthday's just remind me that everyday I'm "teaching" myself out of job and someday I won't be waking them up with balloons and signs......or maybe I will if their spouses don't mind! I am grateful, however, for the part of birthdays that remind of the awesome everydays I've spent with them and how privleged I feel to be their mom as they continue to grow!
